Education

SSCAFCA fulfills its mission to manage our watersheds prudently for future generations in several ways. While most people think first of flood control, watershed management also includes a mandate to educate the public.

SSCAFCA is dedicated to educating students, adults and the Southern Sandoval County community as a whole on the issues of flood control and watershed management. As a member of the Mid Rio Grande Stormwater Quality Team, SSCAFCA is helping to prevent stormwater pollution to keep the Rio Grand! Along with community outreach and awareness activities, SSCAFCA supports the Rio Rancho Children’s Water Festival and in school education through RiverXchange

The Human Solution to Water Pollution

As a supplement to our educational stormwater programing SSCAFCA created The Human Solution to Water Pollution video. The video has a run time of 10 minutes and is targeted to students in grades 5-8 but is appropriate for grade 4 to adult. Click on the links to access the viewers guide and teacher answer sheet in PDF format.

The video is based on the observations of Captain GORF an ALIEN species who tries to make sense of what is happening to a limited resource (H2O) that humans and so many other life forms depend on.  The “small” humans demonstrate a much different level of understanding and action than their adult counterparts.  There is plenty of food for thought as viewers contemplate the illogic of it all!
